The 150th anniversary of the running of the iconic Melbourne Cup was celebrated here yesterday in Australia! The famous race that "stops a nation" was won by none other than a beautiful French horse called "Americain"! Here he is nearly 3 lengths in front winning and victorious with the jockey Gerald Mosse giving a kiss of victory! Americain was trained by Alain de Royer-Dupre who was somewhat overcome with his incredible win.
I am so happy that a French horse won especially with a name like "Americain". Once again the links between us all are so close ..... France is famous for so many wonderful things that make life special like..... the iconic Hermes fashion house that uses equestrian icons and themes for many of its pieces .....
and of course my favourite champagne "Belle Epoque" produced by the champagne house Perrier-Jouet. This beautiful champagne has hand-painted flowers on the front and is absolutely exquisite ....
and what would champagne be without a beautiful double brie and French stick .....
and something sweet .....France has also given the world macarons .... which are divine, delicious and delectable .....
Rachael and myself off to the big day ..... I didn't back the winner and I was so sorry but never mind it is all in the spirit of the day. What other Tuesday can you get dressed up, sip gorgeous champagne, eat a lavish lunch and bet on the most magnificent animals in the world.... only on Melbourne Cup day! I should have had a premonition because I had been talking to Karina earlier in the day about my antique French sofa arriving soon here to me and I should have put it together .... talking to Karina who is American and my sofa which is French! Never mind there is always next year!
Andrew even managed to get half of the day which is unheard of for him as he usually works huge days and rarely arrives home early.. so we were lucky to be able to spend it together and it was also my brother's birthday so if was a day full of celebration!
Champagne bar based on Belle Epoque .....
More gorgeous French pastries from Laduree ......
Congratulations Americain on winning the
150th Melbourne
Cup!

Sounds like the perfect day! You look lovely, very fitting for such an occasion. ;-)
My precious and most beautiful friend! Oh, may I just say that I think you and I would enjoy each other so much...this post is full of the things I love: HORSES, FRENCH (Oh, am I so happy that a Frenchman was the trainer and I do love the NAME OF THAT HORSE!) and then dearest, the champagne. I love it. I especially love the pink stuff, which I know is a sparkling wine, but I had gone to Northern California this summer and I went to the Korbel champagne winery there for a TASTING! And I got the good stuff....AND THEN...there is you. Your hat and dress..now I love any occasion when I can wear a hat. You and your husband are stunning people my dearest. YOU KNOW HOW TO HAVE FUNNNNNNN and with so much class. AND GUESS WHAT? MY CONSTRUCTION STARTED AND TODAY, they are coming to lay the blocks on the foundation and then the framing starts later in the week! AND....teeeeheeeeee, I have so much going on; MY FRENCH WHITE LINEN SETTEE IS COMING IN ABOUT A WEEK! So....we have a French-American-Australian link as well. Dearest, thank you for coming to visit me. I am off from work today; I just had to take a mental and physical break today and get some sleep and just enjoy watching the building. I hope that you are enjoying every moment of your day today and DO ALL THINGS IN LOVE!
GROSSES BISES, Anita
Oh Frances! That was so nice of you to come back and CHAT! I LOVE THAT SO! And your client, to think that I look like Ms. H.....wooooo hoooo! As I age, it only gets better! teeeeeeheeee! And dearest, I would so love to exchange emails! Here is mine:

Oh how fun. You and I will most definitely chat! I cannot wait to see your settee, and to show you mine. I have so many ideas and my husband and I both are so excited for this building to unfold. I was looking at the movie GRAND CANYON last night with Kevin Klein....if you ever see it, notice the interior of his home in the movie. The white washed beams and the white plastered walls...THAT IS IT! Because our house is a cottage, I do add chandeliers and elegant elements, so it brings up the chic value, but even with the addition, the house will still have the cottage feel. But I LOVE IT!
Oh, more through emails......see you soon dearest. Anita
Dear Frances,
You obviously had a glorious day involving an historical event, friendship, good food and lovely surroundings. Good as it gets.
I wanted to thank you for you lovely post on my wonderful wife, Anita. You made her month, and she is so sweetly deserving.
I also wanted to thank you for your thoughtful response to my post on Rattus Scribus (The Value of a Civilization). Your story about your dad's sadness that the law profession has departed so much from the way he practiced law in his day: i.e., being so openly dollar-driven as the top priority.
Your comments are always a pleasure to receive.
Have a beautiful day.
