It is from a "Donna Hay" recipe book but I just made some modifications ......
Require~
2 x 20cm cake tins
300g (10 oz) dark cooking chocolate, chopped
375g (12 oz) butter, chopped
6 eggs
1.5 cups caster sugar
1.5 teaspoons vanilla extract
1.5 cups self-raising flour
half a cup of cocoa powder
Pre-heat oven to 140 degree C or 280 degree F. Stir the chocolate and butter in a saucepan over low heat until melted and smooth. Set aside. Beat the eggs, sugar and vanilla in the bowl of an electric mixer until creamy and thick. Fold in the chocolate mixture. Sift the flour and cocoa over the top and gently fold through.
Line the tin with non-stick baking paper (grease thinly with butter first). Pour the mixture into the tin and bake for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes or until the cake is cooked when tested with a knife in the middle. It may take a little longer or shorter but just keep checking. Allow to cool the cake in the tin.
To serve ~
Whip 300g fresh thickened cream with one teaspoon vanilla extract and about one tablespoon of icing sugar. Whip in an electric mixer until peaks form. Serve on a cake stand ...... place one of the cakes on the bottom with the crust top face down and put a layer of thick cream on the top. Then place the other cake on top with the crust face up. Dust liberally with icing sugar and decorate to whatever you like. I generally use rose petals and place them around the edge of the cake stand as well and then serve with strawberries or blueberries! I hope you enjoy it!

Good morning beautiful M.A.! Oh, I must do this...I must. My momma used to make the best chocolate devil's food cake for me when I was young and when I would come home from school, there is was on the kitchen table. What joy. Are you having fun in the sun dearest? We are celebrating our Thanksgiving week here and the air is chilly and romantic. Our addition has come to a halt because the trusses and wood for the framing has not come in yet and the three windows and French doors need to also come in. But progress will be made soon! AND YOUR SETT dearest, as soon as it comes in, SEND ME A SNAPSHOT!!! LOVE AND HUGS, Anita
That looks so yum.

Thank you, Frances. I cannot wait to make it. Of course, I have little patience when it comes to baking but this sounds divine and I know my kids will love it. Isn't it grand to have cake in the house? It just brings back lovely childhood memories.
Hugs,
Karina

Dearest friend!
What a treat to see you on my comments page this morning! Oh, as I stopped to look at your profile I noticed another thing we have in common: LOVE OF HORSEBACK RIDING! It has been a very long time for me, but what a magnificent sport and stress-buster. THANK YOU FOR YOUR GRACIOUS COMMENTS...I had fun thinking of how to answer those questions in a DIFFERENT sort of a way, which is how I like to do things...and isn't it so true how when we are apart from our husbands, things are out of sync? When I was in Nice, France, I was all by myself for one month. I have to say, I had a blast going to school, shopping, talking...you know, what I am good at!!!! But when Ruben came to meet up with me after my classes were over, the REAL FUN began; we went everywhere and anywhere our feet could take us. NOW......I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE YOUR SETTEE!!! WOOOOOOO! It must be stunning, just absolutely stunning. I am enjoying mine, even though it is not in its permanent spot. Our building has come to a halt because the builder is waiting for all of the windows, French doors and trusses to come in on order. Then the framing goes up and HOPEFULLY, after a month of sealing up the rooms and doing the electrical, we should be ready to move everything in. THEN the studio will be all mine to put my settee into. I will wait for your email with great anticipation!
I wish you a wonderful summer season my dear friend and thank you so much for coming by...Bisous, Anita
And of course this the No-Fat version Frances, suitable for MOTH's No Fat Ever Again diet regime! Looks foolproof & very yummy.
