It has been a very sad, difficult time for so many in the city we live in. The floods that are currently inundating our city are overwhelming and may well make history. We are lucky enough to be on high ground so we are not directly affected but there have been so many people who have lost their homes and the situation is tragic.
These floods have resulted from a very unusual season whereby we have had torrential, monsoonal rain for weeks on end and now the rivers that run higher than the Fitzroy are all flooded as well and are converging on the mighty Fitzroy.
No one really knows where the river will peak but forecasts are that it may go over the 10m mark which will be higher than the 1991, 1954 and 1918 floods. The airport has been closed and now all roads into the city have been cut off. It is isolated. We have been away and cannot return.
Police Officers wading through the water to help residents and above, flood waters over the runway at the airport. It is very overwhelming and terribly sad for so many people.....

So true and poignant Franny!
My parents spent all day in their kitchen preparing and baking - transportable fare - such as quiches and pies and delivered them this evening out to the Sports Complex at the University to those who have begun the New Year without food or shelter. The Uni Campus has become a temporary Village of travellers who have been ambushed by blocked highways and a waterlogged airport runway and Rocky residents alike, driven from their saturated homes.
Mum and Dad, like many, just needed to feel they were doing something to help!
Thank God we are all secure and protected - this is going to be a long haul for our Home town!
Stay safe,
Ton! x
DEAREST FRIEND....I am stunned to see this....I am also glad that you have not been affected, but the difference from being on a higher level and on a flatter surface is UNPROPORTIONAL! We too live on a hill and away from any rivers, for here in Minnesota, there are always floods. Dearest one, my heart goes to you and your neighbors....I am so sorry to see this. How have you been lovely one?
MISSING YOU, FRANCES!
Come on by for a touch of blue....Anita
Oh my! I'm so sorry to see that! I can't imagine how tragic the situation must be. But I'm glad to hear that you are fine.
We have relatives in Rockhampton too. I am glad to hear your home is safe. ;-)
Frances,
The moment I heard about this I knew I had to sit down to touch base with you. I am thinking about you and your neighbors. Absolutely horrible. My thoughts are with you.
Our flood was just so minor compared to this my heart goes out to all those affected in Rockhampton and elsewhere.
My prayer is that the flood waters recede as quickly as possible. Take care ~ Julienne
So glad to hear that all is OK with you Francis - but my heart goes out to those who have lost so much, a very scary & sad time for all. Take Care.
Katie
I am so sorry to hear about that, Frances! How tragic. I love the phoyo of your beautiful family. Happy New Year! xo
Dear Frances I have been so worried about you and now know that your home is probably not going to be affected, and that you are away from the area... thank goodness you are OK! My heart goes out to your townspeople and all the other areas so desperately affected.
Stay safe and thanks so much for updating us...please let us know how things progress.
love
Kit
Thank-you all so very much for your kind words and prayers. It is very much appreciated and I will keep you up to date.
best wishes always
Frances
Dear Fran,
These photos are amazing and tragic all at the same time. If it's not bushfires & droughts then it's floods. We have been glued to the news for weeks watching all of this unfold and now the floods have hit Victoria. Apart from our favourite camping ground being flooded out & evacuated, our part of the coast is in no threat but we have given generously to the flood appeal because my heart goes out to those that have lost so much & have so much hard work ahead of them cleaning up.
Thinking of you.
x
Melissah
